Read the statement of our managing director, Dr. Gaby Urban, on the subject of “GAT’s product policy in relation to increasing electromobility”:

“First of all, I would like to say that GAT follows developments in the automotive sector very closely. GAT is a member of the leading association of suppliers to the automotive industry and is in direct contact and exchange with the German Ministry of Economics responsible for the industry. In this way, GAT obtains a global view of current developments. The term “electric car” is in itself too vague.”

First of all, this term includes the pure “battery vehicles”. These are currently in the minority and we assume that, with the exception of specific applications, territorial or regional focal points (such as the centers of larger cities, etc.), they will not displace vehicles with combustion engines in the foreseeable future. For these battery-only vehicles, GAT currently only has products for the air conditioning system and products for vehicle care. In addition, GAT is currently researching liquids for cooling the batteries of these vehicles and liquids for their braking systems.

“Electric vehicles” are also those with combined drives, i.e. hybrid vehicles that have both an electric drive and a combustion engine (petrol, diesel or gas, including hydrogen). These “electric vehicles” are currently in the majority and will remain so in the coming years.

Almost all GAT products that are used on conventional vehicles with internal combustion engines can be used in these vehicles. However, I would like to point out that already in 2017/18 GAT has developed special fuel system cleaners for hybrid vehicles (petrol and diesel).

These specialized products solve problems that are specifically related to hybrid vehicles: long periods of fuel in the tank and in the fuel lines, irregular and high-speed operation of (relatively undersized) internal combustion engines. We see great market potential for these products.

“Electric vehicles” are also those with exclusively electric propulsion based on “fuel cells”. Such vehicles are currently hardly on the market, which is why the development of specific products for them is not yet possible. Products for the air conditioning system and care products will, however, also be used with absolute certainty on these vehicles.

According to the German government’s assessments, it is not yet certain that the exclusively battery-powered vehicle will displace all other types of drive. In all workshops and meetings with specialists and political officials, we are asked to keep our production and product development “open-concept”. The German government relies heavily on internal combustion engines with climate-neutral fuels, especially internal combustion engines that will use “green hydrogen”.

The production capacities for hydrogen and the distribution system for hydrogen (pipelines, filling stations, etc.) are currently being massively expanded in Germany. To the extent that these vehicles will have a large share in future passenger and freight transport, most of GAT’s currently existing products – in modified form – will be applicable in these vehicles, as is already the case with LPG and LNG vehicles. “
